Bid Farewell to Yahoo Answers, as the search engine giant decides to shut it off.
Yahoo Answers was first launched in June 2005, and since then it became a very popular Q&A platform. However, Yahoo announced yesterday to shut down its Yahoo Answers platform on May 4.
Following which, users can no longer use the Q&A platform from April 20.
If you visit the Yahoo Answers website right now, you can see a message appearing on top of its page announcing the shutting down of its platform.
The message reads as:
“Yahoo Answers is shutting down on May 4, 2021 (Eastern Time) and beginning April 20, 2021 (Eastern Time) the Yahoo Answers website will be in read-only mode,” reads the prompt. “There will be no changes to other Yahoo properties or services, or your Yahoo account. You can find more information about the Yahoo Answers shutdown and how to download your data on this help page.”
Along with the announcement, Yahoo linked a FAQ page that answers all the queries related to the shutting down of Yahoo Answers.
According to which, during the transition phase, the Yahoo Answers will only be available as “read-only”. This means users can no longer post any questions or answer them. After May 20, the website will not exist, and users trying to access the site will be automatically redirect to Yahoo homepage. However, the change of service will not affect any other Yahoo services or account holders. Yahoo says that for seeking information or answers you can use Yahoo search.
How To Download My content from Yahoo Answers
If you wish to download your content, then visit Yahoo FAQ page, that says you can do it before June 30, 2021.
To download your content from Yahoo Answers, you need to request yahoo. This will take upto 30 days for your content to be available to download.
- Go to
- Visit Your Privacy Dashboard and Controls page. (This will take you to Verizon media page as Verizon purchased Yahoo, in 2017. )
- Choose Yahoo to sign in to your account;
- Go to “Download and view your Yahoo data” section;
- Next, click on Download My Data;
- Choose Yahoo Answers.
- Click Next.
- Enter your email address, you want to receive the about the info when the download is ready.
- Click Request Download.
- Click Done.
Yahoo will then inform you when you can download your data.
Yahoo Sent Note To Its Yahoo Members To Explain About the Shutdown
The Verge writes in to blog about the note which Yahoo sent to its active members explaining and further notifying about the shutdown of Yahoo Answers.
The note says:
“We launched Yahoo Answers sixteen years ago to help people around the world connect and share information,” begins Yahoo’s message. “With you and millions of other users, we built the best place on the web to ask and answer questions on a variety of topics, creating a community of global knowledge sharing. While we could not have been prouder of what we accomplished together, we are reaching out today to let you know that we have decided to shut down Yahoo Answers on May 4th, 2021.”
“While Yahoo Answers was once a key part of Yahoo’s products and services, it has become less popular over the years as the needs of our members have changed,” the note continues. “To that end, we have decided to shift our resources away from Yahoo Answers to focus on products that better serve our members and deliver on Yahoo’s promise of providing premium trusted content.”
