Microsoft releases a workaround for users experiencing activation issues on their Windows 10 for versions 2004 and 20H2.

The Windows 10 activation issue 0xc004c003, started to appear after installing the monthly release of January 2021 “C” KB4598291 preview update. While this issue is not found on KB4598298 nonsecurity preview release, which is also known as “C” release. It was released in February 2, 2021 which is distinct from the security release of January, known as “B” release.

Explaining the issue Microsoft said:

“This issue might occur when you try to activate the operating system with an OEM Activation 3.0 (OA3) Digital Product Key (DPK).”
“Error 0xC004C003 occurs when a licensing code component tries to access a registry hive without proper access. A resulting access denied error causes the product key not to be extracted correctly.”

The KB4598291 update reported a bug that incorrectly deactivated some of the Windows 10 Education devices after upgrading to the Windows 10 version 2004.

So, after installing the preview update, it prevents users from activating Windows 10 on their systems.

Windows 10 activation problem error code 0xc004c003 reads as:

“We can’t activate Windows on this device because you don’t have a valid digital license or product key.
If you think you do have a valid license or key, select Troubleshoot below. Error code 0xc004c003.”

Workaround For Windows 10 0xc004c003 activation error

To address this issue and activate the Windows 10, Microsoft recommends users avoid installing the KB4598291 update on their devices.

“This issue is not present on devices that run the January 2021 security release or an earlier release,” says Microsoft.

“To work around this issue, run the January 12, 2021 release or an earlier release until this issue is resolved.”

You need to close all your applications, and run a command using command prompt window:

wusa /uninstall /kb:4598291

Microsoft said to be working on the resolution of the issue and will soon release an update.
