There are times, when your laptop may refuse to charge, this can happen due to various possible reasons. For example,

  • may be your charger is not plugged on properly, so check its connecting wire, or
  • there are dust particles inside your charging port and so,
  • your device is overheating.
  • driver are outdated or been corrupted due to some issues,
  • you have recently upgraded for Windows 10 from Windows 7 or 8 so there are chances that your battery drivers are not compatible,

Case 1: May be your charger is not plugged on properly, so check its connecting wire

In this case, you should check the connecter, if it is not loosen anywhere. Oftentimes, there are very easy fixes for problems seeming big. So, that’s it. Also, check for any damage to the charger’s adapter or AC outlet.

To check, if your charger is still working, try to borrow charger from friends, colleagues or other family member and try to charge.

So if that’s the charger which is causing the issue, then contact the service center of the company laptop you own.

Care 2: There are dust particles inside your charging port

Like every device, your laptop too needs proper maintenance and cleaning. Often dust particles gets inside the ports, jacks and screen, which may cause issues.

So, try cleaning your device with soft brush to remove all the dust particles. And try to put on the charger. Also, check battery health of your laptop, that you give you full insight of your overall life-cycle and usage report.

Case 3: If the laptop is overheating

Generally, laptop gets over heated, while we keep it on pillows that blocks it vents to flow the heat outside. Other reason is when we run heavy applications, play games and long-duration of usage. In this case, you should try out removing the battery and leave it for sometime to cool down. And then put it back safety.

Case 4 & 5: If you have recently upgraded for Windows 10 from Windows 7 or 8, so there are chances that your battery drivers are not compatible.

  • Open Device Manager by right-clicking on the start button and select “Device Manager” from the menu;

  • After the Device Manager window opens, locate the “Battery” section and expand it locate its drivers;
  • There are two battery drivers you should see: Microsoft AC Adapter and Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery.
  • Right-click on the Microsoft AC Adapter and click on the “Uninstall device“. Do the same for another one.

Don’t worry, because when you restart your laptop, your battery drivers will be reinstalled again. This will the latest version compatible with your current Windows OS.

Here’s how to re-install battery drivers in Windows 10 laptop:

  1. Shut down your laptop properly, as you do normally;
  2. Unplug your power cable from the laptop;
  3. If your laptop has a removable battery then remove it safety, clean it and put it back;
  4. Now, plug-in the power cable again to your laptop;
  5. Finally, start your laptop.

Now, check, if your laptop is charging now. To do this, click on the battery icon on your system tray and you should see the charging indicator and LED light on your laptop.
